Look for Key Words in the Source Code

Posted by abetterhomebiz on May 3, 2010

As I mentioned previously, look for my key word string at http://abetterbiz.com.

Go to that website and place your cursor over any part of the first page that has no text on it. Right click once and look for “View Page Source” in the dropdown window and and click on that.

In the source code that comes up you will see in the fourth line down a meta tag like this:<meta name=”keywords” Content=”better home based business, best, business, better internet business, home based business, abetterbiz.com

The underlined part is my key word string.

You can do this with any website with few exceptions. (Some websites have a way of blocking access to the source code)

You will sometimes find no sign of a key word string. More about that later.

The search engine robots always look for the TITLE first, then the DESCRIPTION and then the KEYWORDS. And finally they look at the content of the website to see if the keywords are actually used at least every 200 words or so. They also like to see the word Google in a couple places. LOL

Lastly they look for all the links you have and they follow every one of those to see if there is any relevant content out there. And they look for links that point back to your own website. They regard anything new with some of your key words in as something which is adding content to you website.  They like that and rank you a little higher.

So next time I will talk about how to get more back-links to your website.

In the meantime check the source code on several websites, especially the ones that are in the first three top positions on the search engine page.

If you have a website, check the source code on it and look for the key word string.

Please add a comment if you wish. I will be glad to try to answer your questions, if you have any.
