Add Back-Links to Your Website

Posted by abetterhomebiz on July 22, 2010

On the subject of adding fresh content to your website you will want to place links on your site which link to other websites which talk about the same subjects you are talking about.  Any links to other websites which have content similar to yours will be followed by the search engines. When they find content similar to yours they like it and count it as fresh related content for your website. This is even more true if the other persons’ websites have back links to your site.

You can find link exchanges which want you to link to their website IF you first place a link to their website on your site. Of course, you want them to do the same for you. That’s how it works. But you risk losing the back link to your site if the partner site chooses to delete your link.

Make sure you link to your own BLOG because every time you add to the blog it will count as fresh content for your main webste. You have complete control over this.

With the rise of social networks we have another powerful tool for providing back links to your personal site. Make sure you provide useful information to your network friends and ask them to comment on your site (insert a hot link for them to use, of course).

You will find a link to this blog on my ABetterBiz website. Notice that it is a clickable hot-link.

Look for Key Words in the Source Code

Posted by abetterhomebiz on May 3, 2010

As I mentioned previously, look for my key word string at http://abetterbiz.com.

Go to that website and place your cursor over any part of the first page that has no text on it. Right click once and look for “View Page Source” in the dropdown window and and click on that.

In the source code that comes up you will see in the fourth line down a meta tag like this:<meta name=”keywords” Content=”better home based business, best, business, better internet business, home based business, abetterbiz.com

The underlined part is my key word string.

You can do this with any website with few exceptions. (Some websites have a way of blocking access to the source code)

You will sometimes find no sign of a key word string. More about that later.

The search engine robots always look for the TITLE first, then the DESCRIPTION and then the KEYWORDS. And finally they look at the content of the website to see if the keywords are actually used at least every 200 words or so. They also like to see the word Google in a couple places. LOL

Lastly they look for all the links you have and they follow every one of those to see if there is any relevant content out there. And they look for links that point back to your own website. They regard anything new with some of your key words in as something which is adding content to you website.  They like that and rank you a little higher.

So next time I will talk about how to get more back-links to your website.

In the meantime check the source code on several websites, especially the ones that are in the first three top positions on the search engine page.

If you have a website, check the source code on it and look for the key word string.

Please add a comment if you wish. I will be glad to try to answer your questions, if you have any.

Where Can I Find Good Keywords?

Posted by abetterhomebiz on April 30, 2010

Where Can I Find Good Keywords for My Website?

Well, first of all, you might not need any new key words. If you have a lot of content on the first page of your site you need to take a close look at 1) Your Title 2) Your subtitle – or summary description – and 3) the Content on the first page to see whether you have the words which describe what your product is all about. If you have about one or two words about your product per paragraph scattered at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of your content you can just use them in your keyword string.

For instance, notice how often I use ‘key words’ in the content of this blog. Certainly key words should be one of the first 4 keywords I use to promote this blog website. I also use the word Google several times – so That can be a key word as well.

What about the word ’business‘ ?

Check out these three key words : key word and google and business

Go here  to use a very nice free tool for  to find how often those key words are searched.
Also check on: key and word and keyword.

We want key words that are searched between 1000 to 2000 times – plus or minus. The point is avoid key words that are searched many thousands of times.

The results I found are:

key – 1,655
word – 802
words – 1053
keywords – 722
key word – 130
google – 663,640
business – 5,965
home business – 1,843

Next time I will show you my keyword string.   Or have you found it already?

Here is a well known concept:  The Google robots (spiders) love to see the name Google.  So, if it makes sense try to incorporate that word somewhere in your first page content.

Key Words Are Important In Your Business Website

Posted by abetterhomebiz on April 29, 2010

Why do we care about KEY WORDS?

Key words are what people use when they want to find you or your products on Google.

So, if you are looking for ‘a better home based business for the little guy’ you would be likely to simply type that into the Google search box and hit ‘Enter’.

What you see next is my website abetterbiz.com at the top of the page.
Number 1 out of 35,100,000 entries for that set of key words!

Why is my site picked out of the other 35K entries ?

Because I optimized my abetterbiz.com website so that it would be favored by the Google robots which crawl all over the world-wide-web frequently.

So, we must understand key words. What are they?

A key word is either a single word or a group of three or four words selected and written as a string of lower case words separated by commas. Whatever appears between the commas is one key word.

Example: ‘home, business’ is two key words. But ‘home business’, in one key word. Also ‘home based business’ is one keyword.

Using the example given above, try a Google search for ‘home based business little guy’. There we are again at the top of the page.  Number one among 35,400,000 entries.

What if I choose ‘home based business guy’ ? Now you will find me at the 9th position on page 3 of 190,000,000 entries!

Not so good!

What if I choose ‘home business little guy’ ? Now I am in # 2 position on the first page of 34,000,000 entries – that’s much better.

Here is my keyword string for my abetterbiz.com website:

better home based business, best, business, better internet business, home based business, abetterbiz.com

Think about all this and please add a comment if you have any questions or ideas.
